As part of the celebrations for the centenary of Leonardo’s death, on the occasion of the twelfth edition of La Piazza delle Lingue. Italian language, ingenuity and engineers of the Accademia della Crusca, Professor Gian Michele Calvi will speak on October 31st, at the two days dedicated to the genius of Leonardo with the report Languages and ingenuity in earthquakes and catastrophes (Engineers in class).
In the centenary year of Leonardo’s death (1519-2019), the Piazza delle lingue, a traditional and important event of the Accademia della Crusca, now in its twelfth edition, proposes the theme Italian language, and engineers, and hosts a conference dedicated to the genius of Vinci, entitled: Leonardo. The infinite writing.
This will be an opportunity to take stock of the language of Leonardo and his followers, the tools that make it possible to study it today, and together to reflect on the evolution of Italian in the strategic field of engineering and scientific communication, and the very role of the engineer in contemporary society. In the passage from the past to the present, we will be able to appreciate Leonardo’s extraordinary ability not only to observe and experience phenomena, but also to name them, building a repertoire of words and syntactic and textual structures adapted to the discoveries, and built according to a very modern 'reticular' process.
The conference will be accompanied by events and initiatives of various kinds: the show of the Oranona Lode dell'acqua company (and other digressions) (readings and theater with Enzo Fileno Carabba); an afternoon of music for violin and cello performed by maestro Massimo Coco and maestro Giovanni Ricciardi; an exhibition of texts and scientific instruments that will be set up in the Academy.
The Piazza delle Lingue will take place on 30 and 31 October 2019, in the evocative locations of the Istituto degli Innocenti in Florence (on 30 October) and in the Villa di Castello.
The event, under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic, is sponsored by the City of Florence, the Metropolitan City of Florence, the City of Vinci, the Tuscany Region, and takes place in collaboration with the Istituto degli Innocenti and the Museo Galileo in Florence, and with the support of Unicoop Firenze.
