The University School for Advanced Studies IUSS of Pavia is pleased to announce that Luca Zanetti has been awarded a prestigious grant from the Italian Science Foundation for the research project. Luca Zanetti wins more than € 1.3 million for the project Severe Uncertainty: Decisions, Evidence and Probability. The project, which will run for three years, was selected in the ‘Starting’ category among numerous applications in a highly selective competition, making this achievement particularly significant for the IUSS.
DeEP project will combine philosophy of science, epistemology, and decision theory with the aim of developing a new analysis of non-quantifiable uncertainty.
The main objectives of the project are:
1 . Develop an innovative analysis of severe uncertainty as disagreement
2. Articulate an integrated approach to non-quantifiable uncertainty within the theoretical framework of the social epistemology of risk
3. Contribute to the formulation of new strategies to mitigate severe uncertainty by promoting risk literacy and developing a ‘human scale modelling’ approach in risk analysis.
In addition to the project leader, the team will consist of five researchers and at least one PhD student recruited specifically for the project. The project envisages collaboration with renowned Italian and international universities for the realisation of specific objectives.
This success represents an important milestone for the academic community of the IUSS School.
