
The Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS of Pavia, in collaboration with the School of Advanced Studies "Ferdinando Rossi" of the University of Turin, is pleased to announce the 2025 edition of the Orientation School “Educating Future Citizens (EFC)”.
Two free residential opportunities for high school students in their fourth year: the 2025 edition of the EFC Orientation School is now open for applications.
Applications are open until May 23, 2025.
The Orientation School “Educating Future Citizens” (EFC) consists of a residential educational program dedicated to fourth-year high school students. It is a free and immersive experience designed to support future university students at a crucial decision-making stage: choosing their academic path. The program introduces students to a model of advanced university education characterized by a transversal, cross-disciplinary, and interactive approach.
Two residential sessions:
📍 Pavia – June 23 to 27, hosted at the IUSS School of Advanced Studies (SOE-PV)
📍 Turin – June 24 to 27, hosted at the “Ferdinando Rossi” School of Advanced Studies, University of Turin (SOE-TO)
Both sessions are completely free and include accommodation, meals, and all educational activities.
The program combines lectures, workshops, and meetings led by professors and researchers from the eight University Schools for Advanced Studies in the EFC network. The activities are designed with a transdisciplinary approach to foster curiosity, critical thinking, and awareness.
👥 Available places: 40 in Pavia and 20 in Turin.
Students can submit a single application for both sessions; admitted candidates will be assigned based on the ranking and preferences indicated.

A preview of university life: lectures, college life, and academic excellence
The Orientation School is not only a training experience, but also a concrete opportunity to explore university life within centers of academic excellence.
In Pavia, students will be hosted in the prestigious Collegi di Merito (Collegio Nuovo, Ghislieri, Borromeo, and S. Caterina), while in Turin they will stay at Open 011 – International Youth and Intercultural Mobility Centre.
Highlights of the 2025 edition include:
🎟 June 26 – Exclusive guided tour of the Egyptian Museum in Turin with Director Christian Greco
🔬 June 27 – Final day dedicated to science and innovation, including guided visits to Eucentre and Flow Lab, two leading centers in applied research
Thanks to free residential accommodation, participants will enjoy a unique academic experience, engaging with students from across Italy and fully immersing themselves in university life.
The initiative is entirely free of charge, with no registration fees.

The Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS of Pavia is the lead institution of the Educating Future Citizens (EFC) project, an initiative aimed at training responsible and aware citizens through high-quality and innovative educational pathways.
The EFC – Educating Future Citizens project (code SSU2024-00002) is funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU under Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Mission 4 – Component 1 – Investment 3.4: “Advanced university education and skills,” sub-investment “Strengthening University Schools for Advanced Studies.”
Funding has been granted under Article 11, Paragraph 1, of Call 594/2024.
The project involves eight Italian University Schools for Advanced Studies, including three special-status institutions:
- IUSS School of Advanced Studies, Pavia (lead institution)
- IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca
- SISSA – International School for Advanced Studies, Trieste
and five university-based Schools:
- “C. Urbani” School of Advanced Studies – University of Camerino
- “G. Leopardi” School of Advanced Studies – University of Macerata
- “F. Rossi” School of Advanced Studies – University of Turin
- School of Advanced Studies – University of Udine
- Ca’ Foscari International College – University of Venice
The project aims to promote academic excellence through joint initiatives and orientation activities, highlighting the role of University Schools for Advanced Studies in both the Italian and European higher education landscape.
