To apply for a scientific research visa, the following documents are required:

  • application form for the entry visa;
  • recent passport-size photograph;
  • valid travel document with an expiry date at least three months after the expiry date of the visa requested;
  • research permit issued by the One-Stop Shop for Immigration - for stays longer than three months;
  • documentation certifying that the applicant is a researcher employed by a foreign university or research institution - for short stays;
  • hosting agreement signed with the applicant by the accredited Italian university or research institute - for short stays.

The IUSS School will apply for the “clearance certificate” at the SUI (Single Immigration Desk).

The hosting agreement defines the research project, previously approved by the Class/Senate/Board of Directors as the host organization.

To prepare the above agreement, the IUSS School will need the following documents/information:

1) passport

2) academic title (degree, PhD, etc.), the University that awarded the title and the date on which the title was obtained

3) the title and duration of the research project to be carried out at the IUSS School;

4) a statement issued by the university of origin regarding any salary/scholarship during the stay in Italy

5) accommodation statement (contract, hotel reservation, statement of hospitality from a college).
