Biography

PhD Candidate in Understanding and Managing Extremes.

Alessandro Damiani received a bachelor’s (BSc) degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Pavia (Italy) in 2019. He then continued his studies in the field of earthquake engineering obtaining his master of science (MSc) in Civil Engineering for Mitigation of Risk from Natural Hazards – Reduction of Seismic Risk (ROSE) curriculum - in 2022 at IUSS Pavia (Italy). His master thesis consisted in a study on the impact and propagation of uncertainties in probabilistic seismic risk models for portfolio loss assessment. During this period, he served as teaching assistant and also, in the private sector,  as a risk analyst and modeler at RED – Risk Engineering + Development (Pavia, Italy). His job mainly focused on the development of exposure and vulnerability models for numerous natural hazards (earthquakes, landslides, floods, wind, hail) and on the assessment of socio-economic impacts caused by climate change-related perils. Finally, in September 2022, Alessandro enrolled in the PhD program in Understanding and Managing Extremes - Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (ROSE) curriculum - at IUSS Pavia (Italy).
