Fangqing earned his B.Sc. Degree in Civil Engineering from Guangdong University of Technology, China in 2019. Before enrolling in his master studies at the University College London (UCL), Fangqing worked as a structural engineer. He graduated from UCL in 2020 and obtained his M.Sc. degree (with Distinction) in Earthquake Engineering with Disaster Management, with a dissertation titled “Towards Physics-Based Ground Motion Simulations for Istanbul: A Critical Appraisal of Existing Velocity Models” under the supervision of Dr. Karim Tarbali and Prof. Carmine Galasso. Afterwards, he worked as a civil engineer for 6 months before he joined the Understanding and Managing Extremes PhD program at IUSS Pavia in 2021.
