Biography
PhD Candidate in Understanding and Managing Extremes.
Georgios Triantafyllou holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering with specialization in Structural Engineering from Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) in Greece, and an MSc degree in Reduction of Seismic Risk (ROSE-CivRisk) jointly offered from the University School for Advanced Studies in Pavia, IUSS, and the University of Pavia. His MSc research was focused on the seismic risk assessment of single buildings with consideration of the vertical component of ground motion. After his graduation, he worked as a Catastrophe risk modeler in the private sector, where his work was mainly focused on the development of earthquake and wind vulnerability models.
The topic of the PhD thesis delves into the importance of hazard-consistent three-component ground motion selection for seismic risk assessment applications, with particular emphasis on nuclear power plants. This research is carried out through a collaboration between IUSS Pavia and EDF (Electricite de France) R&D Lab Paris Saclay.
