Biografia

Volkan (1993) received his B.Sc. degree in civil engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU) in 2016. During B.Sc., he carried out research in energy based-seismic response of structures and engineering use of ground motion simulations, in addition, he worked as a site engineering intern in large scale construction projects, DAMAC Towers (Dubai) and İzmit Bay Bridge (Turkey). He then continued his career in the field of earthquake engineering and engineering seismology, and received his M.Sc. degree from the Erasmus Mundus MEEES Program in 2018 after attending courses in METU (Turkey) and IUSS Pavia (Italy). His M.Sc. research topic was investigation of seismic performance of damped and undamped floating roofed steel storage tanks. Before starting his Ph.D. he has worked in Italy as a structural engineer whose focus is earthquake resistant design and retrofit of RC structures. After starting his P.hD. in 2018, he worked as teaching assistant for several times. Bridge Structures - December 2018, UME School, Pavia, IT Dynamics of Structures - October 2019, UME School, Pavia, IT Bridge Structures - December 2019, UME School, Pavia, IT Currently, his main research topic is performance-based seismic design and seismic risk assessment of RC bridge structures.
