Biography

Annalisa Bonfiglio is a Full Professor of Electronic Bioengineering at the Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS of Pavia, where she coordinates the PhD program in "Risk and Complexity in High Tech Medical Innovation" (The Hadron Academy) and serves as the delegate for the IUSS Alumni Community project.
She graduated in Physics in 1991 from the University of Genoa. She earned her PhD in Bioengineering at the Politecnico di Milano (1996). At the University of Cagliari, she first served as a researcher (1996-2005), then as an Associate Professor (2005-2015), and finally as a Full Professor (2016-2023). Since 2024, she has been serving as a Full Professor at the Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS of Pavia.
She taught courses in Electronic Devices and Bioelectronics at the University of Cagliari, where she held the position of Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering from 2012 to 2017. In 2023-2024, she coordinated the committee for the establishment of a new Master’s Degree in Bioengineering at the University of Cagliari in an inter-university agreement with the IUSS School and the University of Pavia (starting in the academic year 2024-25).
Her research interests focus on bioelectronics. Her main areas of investigation include: 1) biosensors based on organic semiconductor materials; 2) wearable devices for detecting electrical signals produced by the human body; 3) biomedical and biotechnological applications of sensors and biosensors. She is listed among the top Italian scientists in the field of Bioengineering.
She has held leadership roles in numerous research projects, both at the national level (most recently in PNRR and POS projects – Ministry of Health) and international level (EU). She has served as a member of the panel for the latest edition of the National Research Plan (PNR – Panel Electronics, Telecommunications, and Digital Technologies) and has participated in numerous international research evaluation panels.
From 2015 to 2017, she was the Vice-Rector for Innovation and Relations with the Territory at the University of Cagliari. She was a member of the Board of Directors (2014-2017) and later (2017-2020) President of CRS4 (Center for Advanced Studies, Research and Development in Sardinia). She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of VIU (Venice International University).
She participates in the 100esperte project (https://100esperte.it/) as an expert in the STEM Engineering area. She has won two awards dedicated to female scholars who have significantly contributed to the advancement and technological transfer of university research products.
She is the author of more than 200 publications in high-impact international journals and international conference proceedings, as well as 12 patents.
