Biography
Christian Salvatore (1987) is a researcher at the Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS, Pavia. He has a scientific background in the field of physics applied to medicine, with a focus to diagnostic imaging. From 2013 to 2019, he was a research fellow at the Institute of Molecular Bioimaging and Physiology of the National Research Council (IBFM-CNR). In 2018-2019 he was adjunct professor at the University of Milano–Bicocca.
His research activity is focused on the application of Physics to Medicine and Biology and, more recently, to Environmental and Cultural Heritage. His research topics concern: 1) development and implementation of image-acquisition and processing methods for functional and structural studies at a single-organ level or entire organisms, both in the clinical (human) and preclinical (small animal) fields, working with hospitals and clinical research centers; 2) development of artificial intelligence methods for the quantification, extraction and classification of information acquired through imaging techniques such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging (NMR), optical imaging, ultraviolet fluorescence (UV), near-infrared (IR) reflectography, multispectral imaging, near-infrared functional imaging (fNIRS), remote sensing visible imaging; 3) development of methods and models for the correction of physical effects representing sources of disturbance in clinical imaging studies (for example partial volume effect in PET).
Since 2018 he is co-founder and CEO of DeepTrace Technologies, an innovative startup which operates in the artificial-intelligence field.
His research work has been recognized with important scientific and business prizes and awards at both national and international level, including the FORBES 30 UNDER 30 Award in the "Science and Healthcare" category, the Ambrosetti – Peres Heritage Initiative Award, and the Unicredit StartLab 2019 Award as best startup in the field of life sciences.
