Biography
Marco Gaetani is Associate Professor in Physics of the Earth System at the IUSS School for Advanced Studies in Pavia since 2022, where he teaches Climate Dynamics and Change to undergraduate and PhD students, and is head of the research centre Climate change impAct studies for RISk MAnagement (CARISMA).
He completed a MS in Physics at La Sapienza University in Rome in 2003 and a PhD in Physics at the University of L’Aquila in 2011. He worked as a researcher at: CNR Istitute of Biometeorology (IBIMET) in Rome, Department of Geophysics and Meteorology of the Complutense University in Madrid, Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission (Ispra, Italy), Institute Pierre Simon Laplace (IPSL) in Paris and IUSS Pavia. During his research work, he participated in several research projects at national and international level. Namely, the African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis (AMMA-FP6), Climate change and impact research: the Mediterranean environment (CIRCE-FP6), and Dynamics-aerosol-chemistry-cloud interactions in West Africa (DACCIWA-FP7).
His research focuses on atmosphere dynamics and past, present and future climate variability and change. In particular, he studies the West African monsoon dynamics and teleconnections, the climate variability of the Euro-Atlantic region, the transport of aerosols from the African continent. He is also interested in the impact of climate variability and change on human activities, agriculture and energy sectors in particular.
