Paolo Esposito, graduated in Physics at the University of Milan in 2005 and got a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Pavia in 2009. In the following decade, he carried out research at the Institute of Space Astrophysics and Cosmic Physics in Milan (INAF/IASF-Mi), the Sardinia Radio Telescope, the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in the United States (thanks to a Fulbright Research Scholarship), and the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. His main scientific interests are neutron stars (with particular interest in their magnetic fields and super-magnetic objects, known as magnetars), binary systems with white dwarfs, neutron stars or black holes, extra-galactic ultra-luminous X-ray sources, and the precursors of gravitational events. He also deals with gamma-ray bursts and, more in general, with transient celestial phenomena observable at high energies. Furthermore, he participates in study groups for the development of new space missions. He is the author of hundreds of scientific publications and popular articles aimed at the general public, and he is a scientific consultant for numerous journals and international funding or evaluation agencies. Since 2019, he works at the University School for Advanced Studies IUSS Pavia.
