Research Project Guidelines

Deadline for applications: June 9th, 2025 - 1:00 pm CEST

7 positions, of which:

-    n. 2 positions with scholarship funded by IUSS on the following topic: “Clinical and experimental cognitive neuroscience”. Projects focus on understanding the nature, organization, and neural processes underlying different aspects of cognitive functioning. This is achieved through behavioural, neurophysiological, neurostimulation, and/or neuroimaging methods in healthy individuals as well as in populations affected by neurological and psychiatric conditions. Core research topics include memory, language, executive functions, decision-making, social cognition, and nutritional neuroscience with a focus on experimental and clinical neuroscience, encompassing the theoretical basis of cognitive dysfunctions, as well as the clinical implications and rehabilitative options of disorders affecting cognitive functions.

-    n. 2 positions with scholarship funded by IUSS Excellence Department on the following topic “Cognitive Neuroscience and Sustainability”.  Projects focus on cognitive neuroscience and sustainability research through behavioral, neurophysiological, neurostimulation, and/or neuroimaging studies in both healthy and/or pathological populations.

-    n. 1 position with scholarship funded by University of Pavia on the following topic “Effects of Music Therapy in Substance Use Disorders.”
The proposed research aims to evaluate the short- and long-term effects of active and receptive music therapy interventions, in addition to standard treatment, in individuals with psychoactive substance dependence, through the implementation of a randomized controlled clinical trial. Specific requirements to be met by candidates: Master's Degree in Psychology (LM-51) – II Level Academic Diploma in Music Therapy Theories and Techniques issued by a Conservatory;

-    n. 1 position with scholarship funded by University of Pavia on the following topic “Exploring the neurophysiological correlates of complex behaviors in healthy and pathological individuals.”

-    n. 1 position with scholarship funded by Istituto Auxologico Italiano on the following topic “Neural Mechanisms of Emotion Processing in Frontotemporal Dementia: A Multimodal Approach”. The project aims to study, through a new battery of cognitive tests, the presence of similarities and differences in the processing of emotional information and behavior control in patients with neurodegenerative disorders of the frontotemporal spectrum. The relationship with the impairment of temporal and frontal regions will be investigated through quantitative neuroimaging studies.
