IUSS works for the protection of public health through clinical research and scientific-didactic collaborations with the hospitals with which it is in agreement.

The active collaborations of the IUSS Pavia School are with the Istituti Clinici Scientifici Maugeri where the Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory is based and the IRCSS Fondazione Mondino, which provides the IUSS School's Dementia Research Center with all the technological resources necessary for advanced research activities, from the basic research level (genetics, pharmacology, neurochemistry), to neurophysiology (high-density EEG, transcranial and electrical magnetic stimulation), to neuroimaging (high-field magnetic resonance imaging), the IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo Foundation with which there is a collaborative relationship for the promotion of research in the field of cognitive neuroscience and neurobiology of language, the Poliambulanza Foundation of Brescia, which institutionally carries out inpatient and outpatient hospital activities as well as training, including university-based activities and scientific research activities, the CNAO Foundation - National Center for Oncology Hadrontherapy established for the purpose of treating radioresistant or inoperable tumors through the use of protons or carbon ions, particles belonging to the category of hadrons, the ASST Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Niguarda whose collaboration concerns research activities in the field of medical sciences, with particular reference to the deepening of knowledge about the central nervous system, both from an applicative point of view and with reference to the development and refinement of diagnostic and therapeutic methods.

Other collaborations of the IUSS School with health care facilities of a scientific and research nature are with IRCCS Eugenio Medea Associazione La Famiglia, ISS Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Ospedale San Camillo IRCCS - Venice, Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Integrata Verona, Fondazione IRCCS Ca' Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, Istituto Ricerche Farmacologiche Mario Negri and Azienda Socio Sanitaria Territoriale Fatebenefratelli Sacco.
